So, you don't need a license to grow cannabis and earn money. You can't sell cannabis, per say, but you can definitely sell services associated to your cannabis grow! Don't be deterred by the 'license legalities'- you as a grower definitely have potential to make legal money without needing to sell your buds. Here are a few ideas. Feel free to share yours as well!
Cannabis Grow Videos: A lot of people want to grow cannabis in their home or yard, but very few know where or how to start. Grow videos are already pretty popular on Youtube, but very few are high quality and offer the information and tips people really need to have a successful grow. Alaskan grown cannabis is an even tighter niche market. If you can successfully make marketable videos teaching people how to grow cannabis outdoors in Alaska, you might hit the ‘video view’ count that will allow you to begin earning major advertising dollars.
Cannabis Grow Blogs: Just as with grow videos, grow blogs are also very popular. Be informative, share your tips, and allow people to follow your grow. If you can teach people who to successfully grow their own cannabis, by showing them how you grow your own- you’re likely to get a ton of visitors. Just as with Youtube videos, blogs also have a lot of potential for advertising dollars. Good photography skills and writing talent, combined with cannabis-information can go a long way.
Seed Tester/ Reviewer: Just as cannabis herb companies are becoming popular- so are cannabis seed companies. Creating new strains takes a lot of time and a lot of skill- and A LOT of growing. To ensure that the seed is finalized in its genetics it needs to be grown out and bred multiple times. The end result is a brand new strain- something no one has heard of or grown before. If you’re an experienced grower who can prove that you are capable of producing a healthy plant, many seed companies may hire you to do just that; grow their plant. They want to be able to show people that yes, this seed does produce a good plant and (of course) good buds. Having different growers grow their seed and prove their product worthy is a great way for them to legitimize their new strain. If you’re a talented grower, many seed companies will often be happy to send you a free set of seeds and even pay you to grow and review their product.
Cannabis Growing Classes: Rather than teaching people online how to grow cannabis- teach them in person. This is already a niche market that a few growers are tuning into. Sell ‘Cannabis Growing Classes’ where you invite people to learn to grow cannabis right beside you. You can take them through each step of your grow with bi-weekly or weekly sessions that show them step-by-step what they need to do to successfully raise marijuana for themselves in their own home. Indoor-grow classes are the only ones I’ve seen in Alaska thus far- so an outdoor grow market could still hold huge potential. These paid classes could also be offered online, and there are a ton of niches to tune into. Hydro grows. Indoor grows. Outdoor grows. Organic grows. Medical grows. Auto-flower grows. The options are endless! Find one you’re an expert in and then become your own professor of an at-home ‘cannabis college’ (ohhh that’s a good title- someone steal it and use it!).
Cannabis Grow Tours: We’re a brand new industry and one that people around America are VERY interested in. If you can offer a professional tour of a grow for tourists, you might just hit a huge market. A great idea would be to have different rooms set up with all stages of the grow- everything from seedlings to full grown budded plants. These plants are fascinating and there are so many different grow cycles that they go through. You could definitely make it into a fun tourist-worthy set-up if you got creative with it. And because Alaska has an INTERNATIONAL tourist market, you don’t just have to target Americans. People from all over the world (Japan- most notably, seems to have a big underground cannabis-community even though it’s illegal there) can find interest in something like this.
